Description

Your experience begins with a short video presentation in the main museum. After the video your guide will lead you on a short walking tour along the banks of the New River. You will visit the Pioneer House Museum, and the 1899 Replica Schoolhouse Museum, before returning to view the archeaology, Seminole culture and history exhibits in the main museum.  All three museums are located on the picturesque banks of the New River right in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Enjoy a one hour guided tour of 3 historic museums in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale's Arts and Science district.  Upon arrival, visitors will enter the historic 1905 New River Inn and be greeted at the Inn's original desk from Fort Lauderdale's pioneer days.  The tour begins with a brief overview and video of Fort Lauderdale's growth over time followed by an introduction to the New River Inn.  The Inn's second floor consists of four exhibit rooms housing historic artifacts, photographs, and memorabilia; all of which show the growth and change of Fort Lauderdale.

Following the overview of the New River Inn, visitors will be taken outside to view the New River and then to the 1907 King-Cromartie House.  This turn of the century pioneer home housed two of Fort Lauderdale's pioneering families.  The home is filled with furniture from the King and Cromartie families as well as other pieces from the time period.  Visitors will walk through the front door and back in time to a home set up as if the family was coming home to Sunday dinner.

The 1899 Replica Schoolhouse Museum is the last building visitors will see on the guided tour.  Visitors will take a step back in time when they enter the one room class which was built as an exact copy of the original. The schoolhouse is filled with historic photographs of the first class as well as copies of the original textbooks.  While visitors explore the schoolhouse, the docents will tell the story of Fort Lauderdale's first school teacher and her connections to the growth of Fort Lauderdale.

Visitors are lead back to the New River Inn and encouraged to take their time in viewing the second floor exhibits.  The first floor of the Inn houses interchanging art exhibits.  Once the tour is completed, there are multiple restaurants within walking distance or visitors can take a walk along the New River and experience the beauty of Fort Lauderdale.
