Sea Level ups the level of taste and style in Fort Lauderdale
May 13, 2010
Sit back, relax and enjoy the breeze, because dining at Sea Level Restaurant and Ocean Bar is like taking a mini-vacation - without all the hassle of traveling.
Located within the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort and Spa, Sea Level is a breath of fresh air whether you're a hotel guest from Wisconsin or a local from across the street.
The restaurant, led by Executive Chef Thomas O'Keefe and Chef de Cuisine Jason Connelly, appeals to all the senses with its beach chic vibe, tantalizing cocktails and can't-wait-to-try menu items.
Brilliant blue shade umbrellas hold court over a patio filled with tables, chairs, couches and lounge areas. The unconventional space meets all the requirements for diners to feel completely zen. Don't want to sit around a table? You don't have to. Kick back on a couch instead.
Inside the more traditional dining room, guests still gain access to the entire Sea Level experience with a 180 degree glass enclosed panorama of the beach. Bright wall colors, counter-height tables and a giant chalkboard menu (taking up almost the entire back wall) only adds to the unstuffy sophisticated style of the restaurant.
Everything about Sea Level - from its view overlooking the pristine waters off Fort Lauderdale, the gentle rustling sound of palm trees overhead, to the dreaded final sips of a delicious mojito - hits all the right marks. So it's not a wonder the food lives up to the hype as well.
Fully experience your proximity to the nearby surf with some Salt and Peper Calamari ($12), travel across the ocean a ways with some Jamaican jerk wink (with mango lime dipping sauce, $12), taste the freshness of Lump Crab (with Florida Key Lime mustard, $20).
For dinner try the Coconut Grilled Shrimp (with mango chutney, $33), the Double Smoked Nueske's Pork Chop (with warm potato salad and roasted apple sauce, $32) or a Onion Blue Burger (with balsamic onions and crumbled blue cheese and fries, chips or coleslaw, $16).
On the lighter side, the flatbreads ($15) or the Grilled Mahi Mahi Sandwich ($16) are always favorites.
Need something to wash it all down with? Or not in the mood for food yet? Sample one (or more!) of the bar's popular drinks like the Acai Spiked Lemonade (Veev Spirit with lemonade, $10), the Passion in the Sand (Patron Silver, Velvet Falerum, passionfruit, and fresh lime juice, $15), or the Sea-Lada (Corona with spicy mango, $9). The bar also serves a bevy of frozen beverages, local, domestic and imported beers, as well as non-alcoholic drinks.
Dress code ranges from beach to business casual, depending upon the time of day.
